IACS 2005 Fall Meeting

Lucille Lowe retired from the Metropolitan Community Colleges in June 2004 after almost 29 years.  Lucille was responsible for the operations of four bookstores serving metropolitan Kansas City, MO and surrounding areas .  Lucille currently coordinates diversity activities and works with employee relations as an early retirement assignment.

Lucille attended Nettleton Business Training College in Sioux City, Iowa, however did not enter the workforce until 1970 where she was responsible for the daily operations of the Ramstein AFB Day Care and Nursery School, in Ramstein, Germany.  Lucille became a part of the bookstore industry in 1975 after a very brief period with the Internal Revenue Service.

During a 15 year period prior to retirement, Lucille served as an NACS volunteer on the Community College Stores Committee, Cultural Diversity Committee and Task Force, Membership committee and Leadership Task Force.  When Wadsworth’s Inc. became the first publisher to form a Bookstore Advisory Council, Lucille was asked to serve as one of five members of that council.

Lucille is a graduate of the 2000-2001 MultiCultural Leadership Development Institute of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City.  In addition to her bookstore and food service responsibilities for the Metropolitan Community Colleges, Lucille currently serves as Chair of the Districtwide Workplace Diversity Committee.

Lucille currently serves as President of the Kansas/Missouri Board of Project Equality and as a board member on HarmonyNCCJ and the Committee for the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast of Kansas City.

In her spare time, Lucille participates in focus and action community groups relating to race relations and healthy neighborhoods.  She enjoys reading, listing to music, participating in church activities, and vacationing.  Lucille is a grandmother and great grandmother, and thinks, “life is good.”
